The Tlaxcala 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix concluded with a series of outstanding performances, highlighted by world record-breaking achievements and a dominant display by the host nation, Mexico. Held for the first time in Tlaxcala, the penultimate Grand Prix of the 2026 season brought together 442 athletes (303 men and 139 women) from 26 countries for four days of world-class para athletics competition.
Mexico topped the overall medal standings with an impressive 281 medals, including 99 gold medals, showcasing the country’s growing strength in para athletics. The event also served as a key milestone ahead of the season-ending Grand Prix in Cali, Colombia, later this year.
Among the standout performers was Costa Rica’s three-time Paralympic champion Sherman Guity Guity, who equaled the world record in the men’s 100m T64 by clocking 10.61 seconds before also claiming victory in the 200m T44/T64 event. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s 18-year-old I Kadek Dwi Purwana Yasa produced a sensational performance by setting a new world record in the men’s discus throw F57 with a throw of 48.68 metres, surpassing the previous record of 48.55 metres.
The competition also witnessed Americas records from Mexico’s Bryan Enriquez Gonzalez, who threw 15.11 metres in the men’s shot put F37, and Nahum Sanchez Vega, who achieved 10.00 metres in the men’s shot put F40. The remarkable performances throughout the championship underscored the continued growth of para athletics and celebrated the determination, resilience, and excellence of athletes from around the world.
