Volkswagen’s all-electric ID. Buzz has completed an extraordinary around-the-world expedition, travelling 99,767 km across 92 countries and six continents in 445 days and earning a World Records title.

German long-distance driver Rainer Zietlow undertook the ambitious journey in a series-production Volkswagen ID. Buzz Pro Long Wheelbase, demonstrating the capabilities of a standard electric vehicle across dramatically different road, climate and charging conditions.

The ID. Buzz World Tour began on July 1, 2025, at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Customer Center in Hanover, Germany. After travelling around the globe, the vehicle returned to Hanover on September 14, 2026.

World Records recognized the expedition for the most countries visited in a continuous journey by a battery-powered electric vehicle.

During the 445-day adventure, the ID. Buzz travelled through Europe, North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Australia and China. Because the vehicle had to cross oceans during its global route, it also completed 16 container-ship crossings.

The electric van reportedly underwent more than 300 charging cycles throughout the expedition. Volkswagen said the vehicle used standard-production Giti tires, further emphasizing that the record attempt was carried out with a production vehicle rather than a specially developed prototype.

Beyond the World Records achievement, the expedition provided a demanding real-world test of electric mobility, particularly in regions where public EV charging infrastructure remains limited.

The nearly 100,000-km journey stands as an impressive demonstration of long-distance electric travel and the growing possibilities of battery-powered vehicles worldwide.
