The Municipality of Progreso has achieved a remarkable World Record with the Progreso Pier, officially recognized as the world’s longest pier. Measuring an extraordinary 8,018.98 metres (over 8 kilometres), the record-breaking structure stretches deep into the Gulf of Mexico, serving as a vital maritime gateway while showcasing exceptional engineering and infrastructure.
The colossal pier was not built solely to achieve a world record but was designed to overcome the unique geographical conditions of the Yucatán coastline. Due to the exceptionally shallow seabed extending far from the shore, engineers constructed the pier several kilometres into the Gulf of Mexico to enable large cargo vessels and ships with deeper drafts to dock safely.
