Teghbir Singh, a six-year-old student from Rupnagar (Ropar), Punjab, has scripted history by becoming the world’s youngest mountaineer to summit Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe. The Class II student successfully unfurled the Indian tricolour atop the 18,510-foot (5,642-metre) mountain after completing the expedition on 28 June, overcoming freezing temperatures and low-oxygen conditions.
The expedition and concluded with Teghbir’s successful ascent of the snow-covered summit in Russia. His extraordinary feat earned him an official certificate from the Russian Mountaineering and Sports Tourism Federation, recognizing his historic achievement.
This remarkable accomplishment is the result of nearly one year of dedicated preparation under the guidance of his father, Sukhinderdeep Singh. Despite his young age, Teghbir has already conquered Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, and reached the Everest Base Camp in Nepal. He became the youngest Asian to summit Mount Kilimanjaro.
By scaling Mount Elbrus, Teghbir Singh surpassed the previous record held by Kushagra from Maharashtra, who climbed the peak at the age of 7 years and 3 months. Teghbir’s inspiring achievement has brought pride to India and stands as a shining example of courage, determination, and the limitless potential of young adventurers.
