Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science & Technology (PMIST), Vallam, has achieved a remarkable World Record for the Maximum Handmade Gliders Flown Simultaneously by Students at a Venue. The record-setting event brought together 1,932 students, who simultaneously launched 966 handmade gliders, creating a spectacular display of innovation, teamwork, and scientific learning.

The participants, representing schools and polytechnic institutions from across Tamil Nadu, designed and flew the gliders as part of a large-scale STEM education initiative. The synchronized flight demonstrated the students’ understanding of basic aerodynamics and engineering principles while fostering creativity and practical problem-solving skills.

Organized to ignite interest in aerospace, drone technology, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), the initiative provided students with a unique hands-on learning experience that bridged classroom concepts with real-world applications. The event encouraged young innovators to explore emerging technologies and pursue careers in science and engineering.
