The Department of Neurosurgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, under the leadership of Dr. Saraj Kumar Singh, Additional Professor of Neurosurgery, has achieved two remarkable World Records, demonstrating exceptional surgical expertise in handling highly complex neurosurgical cases.
In the first record, Dr. Saraj Kumar Singh and his multidisciplinary neurosurgical team successfully removed the largest skull bone tumour, measuring an extraordinary 22 cm × 16 cm × 7 cm and weighing 830 grams, from a 29-year-old male patient. The highly intricate procedure involved a craniotomy followed by complete tumour resection. The surgery commenced at 9:00 a.m. and concluded at 4:45 p.m., lasting 7 hours and 45 minutes. The successful removal of the massive tumour showcased the team’s exceptional surgical precision, meticulous planning, and coordinated patient care, earning a New World Record recognized by World Records India.
In another groundbreaking achievement, Dr. Saraj Kumar Singh (Chief Surgeon), along with Dr. Kranti Bhavana (Assistant Surgeon) and the AIIMS Patna surgical team, successfully removed the longest fish bone embedded in the cervical spine of a 42-year-old male patient. Measuring 35 mm × 2 mm, the fish bone was extracted through a delicate and technically demanding surgical procedure. The operation began at 9:00 a.m. and was completed at 1:05 p.m., spanning 4 hours and 5 minutes. The successful surgery established yet another New World Record with World Records India.
