Pennsylvania-based fireworks company Pyrotecnico played a central role in an extraordinary Independence Day fireworks display over the National Mall, organized as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The New Castle, Lawrence County-based company prepared more than 850,000 pyrotechnic devices for the massive show, which was designed to run for approximately 40 minutes from 10 locations across Washington, D.C. The production involved eight barges on the Potomac River as well as firing positions around West Potomac Park and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
The undertaking was Pyrotecnico’s largest production to date. Around 75 crew members contributed to preparations, while approximately 35 tractor-trailers transported pyrotechnics and equipment required for the enormous display. The company had been preparing for the event for months while coordinating with multiple government agencies.
The display was planned as an attempt to break the World Record for the largest fireworks display, adding another chapter to Lawrence County’s long association with the pyrotechnics industry. New Castle has historically been known as the “Fireworks Capital of America.”
For Pyrotecnico, the spectacular National Mall celebration represented not only a record-scale production but also an opportunity to showcase the expertise and heritage of its Western Pennsylvania community on an international stage.
