Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday alleged that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had set a “world record” by spending ₹7,000 crore on what he described as a “cosmetic facial” of the state. The remark was made as part of his criticism of the state’s expenditure on beautification and infrastructure projects.

Addressing the media, Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the same amount could have been invested in establishing two to three world-class universities offering education from KG to postgraduate and research levels, which, according to him, would have significantly contributed to the state’s long-term development and the future of its youth.

The Samajwadi Party leader argued that prioritising education over beautification projects would place Uttar Pradesh on a stronger path toward economic progress, innovation, and prosperity. His remarks formed part of the ongoing political debate over the state government’s spending priorities.

The Uttar Pradesh government had not responded to the allegation at the time of reporting. The phrase “world record” was used by Akhilesh Yadav as a political expression and does not refer to any officially recognized world record.
