Michele Frangilli Breaks Two More 50+ World Records at 60 Metres

One of Europe’s most decorated archers, Michele Frangilli, has continued his remarkable form after breaking two more world records in the men’s recurve 50+ category at the Ferragosto a Montalcino tournament in Italy.

Frangilli recorded 681 points in the 72-arrow 60-metre round and 1,357 points in the 144-arrow 60-metre round. The two performances are also Italian and European masters records, although the marks remain subject to official ratification.

The 681-point performance improved on the record Frangilli had established only weeks earlier. After turning 50 this year, the Italian scored 680 points at the Freccia d’Argento tournament in June 2026, surpassing the previous 50+ qualification world record. World Archery reported that the 680 mark was also a European record and was subject to ratification. In Montalcino, Frangilli went one point better, raising the benchmark to 681. The achievement highlights the veteran archer’s exceptional consistency as he begins competing in the 50+ category.

Frangilli also produced a record-breaking 1,357-point total in the 144-arrow 60-metre round. The performance surpassed the previous mark of 1,354, established by American Olympic champion Justin Huish earlier in June. Frangilli therefore improved the benchmark by three points, adding another potential world record to his already distinguished career.

World Archery lists the 50+ category among its officially tracked world-record disciplines, with several records having been broken during the 2026 season. Despite producing two exceptional scores, Frangilli believes he can still raise the standard. “With a bit of training, I can do much more,” he said after the performance.

The Italian has previously noted that his coaching responsibilities have limited the amount of time available for his own training. When he set the 680-point mark in June, World Archery reported that he had undertaken only limited preparation because of his commitments with the Italian federation.

Frangilli’s latest performances add to an extraordinary career that has spanned decades. The three-time Olympian was part of the Italian team that won Olympic gold at London 2012 and has also won major individual titles at the World Archery Championships, World Indoor Championships and World Field Championships.

Turning 50 has opened a new chapter in his career, and he has wasted little time establishing himself as a dominant force in the masters category. Frangilli’s next major assignment will see him return to his coaching responsibilities with the Italian men’s archery team at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games. For now, however, attention remains on his latest extraordinary scores from Montalcino.
