American runner and father Stephen Biebelhausen has delivered an extraordinary performance at the Guardian Mile in Cleveland, completing a mile in just 4 minutes 17 seconds while pushing a stroller carrying his daughter, Blake.

Remarkably, Biebelhausen entered the stroller division with very little specialized preparation. Just one week before the race, he completed his only stroller-specific speed workout—six 400-metre repetitions. His original goal was simply to beat the Guardian Mile course record of 4:44 and potentially finish somewhere in the 4:30 range.

Instead, Biebelhausen started at blistering pace, covering the opening 400 metres in approximately 65 seconds. By the halfway point, he was around 2:12, and it was only then that he realized a world-record performance could be within reach.

He crossed the finish line in an astonishing 4:17, more than nine seconds faster than the existing World Records benchmark of 4:26.29. That record had been established by Silas Frantz, who pushed his son Otto through a mile in Arroyo Grande, California, in June 2025.

Biebelhausen’s performance represents an unofficial improvement on the World Records mark pending formal record verification. Beyond the remarkable finishing time, the feat required him to maintain elite running speed while controlling a stroller and ensuring the safety of his young passenger throughout the race.

What began as an attempt to break a course record ultimately became a potentially historic performance, with Biebelhausen and his daughter racing their way into the spotlight.
