Maharashtra has achieved a remarkable milestone in infrastructure development as the tunnel constructed under the Missing Link project on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s widest underground road tunnel.
The prestigious Guinness World Records certificate was presented to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a formal ceremony held on Maharashtra Day, celebrating the state’s engineering excellence and commitment to world-class infrastructure.
Measuring an impressive 22.33 metres in width, the tunnel has surpassed all existing underground road tunnels worldwide, setting a new global benchmark in highway engineering and tunnel construction.
The newly inaugurated tunnel is a key component of the ambitious Missing Link project, which has been developed to improve connectivity between Mumbai and Pune by reducing traffic congestion, shortening travel time, and enhancing road safety along the heavily used Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway.
Representatives from Guinness World Records officially handed over the record certificate in the presence of senior government dignitaries and officials, recognizing the project’s exceptional engineering achievement and innovative design.
The Missing Link project is expected to significantly transform travel on one of Maharashtra’s busiest expressway corridors by offering a faster, safer, and more efficient route for commuters and commercial vehicles alike.
